This shows proprioceptive axons (in white) in the spinal cord. They provide information about joints position. Using a calcium-binding protein as a marker, an intricate network of sensory projections established by interneurons (white) is detected along the spinal cord, first through cross sections, then as a 3D reconstruction. At the top edge, the dense staining represents longitudinal columns of projections extending towards the brain.
