The wall of the gastro-intestinal system (gut) is innervated by axons coming from the vagus nerve. The gut is also covered by a dense network of enteric neurons which control its motricity during digestion, as well as the secretion of digestive enzymes and hormones.  This is also called the second brain or abdominal brain. This movie shows the intrinsic and extrinsic innervation of the gut.
